How to Get Started: The Intake Process

We've designed our intake process to be as welcoming, straightforward, and low-barrier as possible. You don't need to have everything figured out before you reach out — that's what we're here for. Here is exactly what to expect, step by step.

Step 1: Make Contact
Reach out to us by phone at (877) 352-7744, by email at support@espoircare.org, or by completing the online intake inquiry form at https://www.espoircare.org. You can also connect through our website at https://www.espoircare.org. There is no wrong way to reach out — do whatever feels most comfortable for you.

Step 2: Brief Intake Call
A member of our team will schedule a brief, confidential intake call with you — typically lasting about 15 to 20 minutes. This is not an interrogation or an evaluation. It is simply an opportunity for us to learn a little about your situation, answer any questions you have, and make sure we are the right fit for your needs.

Step 3: Fee Determination
During or immediately following the intake call, we will have a brief, low-pressure conversation about fees. You'll share what feels accurate about your household income and family size, and we will determine a session fee together that reflects your situation. No documentation is required. All information is self-reported and confidential.

Step 4: Schedule Your Appointment
Once your fee is set, we'll work together to find an appointment time that fits your schedule. You can choose between a virtual session (by phone or video) or an in-person appointment at our Dolton, IL office. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences and availability.

Step 5: Complete Your Intake Packet
Prior to your first session, you will receive an intake packet to complete. This packet includes basic contact information, a brief description of your presenting concern, a consent to services form, and a confidentiality agreement. The packet can be completed electronically or on paper — whichever you prefer. We ask that it be returned before your first appointment so we can be fully prepared to serve you.

Step 6: Your First Session
Welcome to Espoir. Your first session is a chance to share more about your situation, ask questions, and begin working together toward resolution. We'll review your goals, explain the process, and take the time to make sure you feel safe, informed, and heard. There is no rush — we work at your pace.

A Note on Confidentiality & Trauma-Informed Care

Every step of our intake process is confidential and trauma-informed. Our staff is trained to engage with sensitivity, patience, and deep respect for each person's lived experience. We understand that many of our clients have been through difficult, sometimes retraumatizing systems — and we are committed to being different. You are safe here.
